On Friday, October 4th, 2019, my son and I finally reunited after eleven long months. His flight got to Boston at 5 PM, and of course it was delayed.
I was so nervous and anxious that every time someone came out, my heart stopped. After about half an hour my mother finally came out. I froze for a couple of seconds, and then I couldn't help the urge to have him in my arms, so I went sprinting to the exit.
He wasn't alarmed when he saw me. We kept staring at each other. He was smaller than I had pictured. But he was perfect in my eyes.
Odell is an intelligent little boy who manages to surprise me every day with everything he learned in those eleven months. I'm extremely thankful to my parents for helping me raise him while I was incarcerated.
A reflection
