For years, I thought God had stopped listening. The truth was that I had stopped speaking, and silence is easy to blame on someone else.
I was angry in a way I couldn't say out loud in any room I was welcome in.
It came back small. Not a prayer — a sentence. 'I don't know how to do this.' I said it in the car.
I still don't have the answers I wanted. I have something else: I stopped pretending I wasn't asking.
